Horizon Horseback is set in the Waterberg In South African. We take volunteers for a three month period (I.e the length of time you are given a visitor’s Visa when you enter South Africa). Candidates must be over the age of 25 and be experienced riders and horse people. (Age is Negotiable if very experienced)

Horizon runs with a small team and as such you should be prepared to help out in any area, including the office. If we have a quiet time and something needs painting or fixing etc all staff will be expected to help out. You will receive all meals, accommodation and transfers however Phonecalls (We recommend you get an S.A sim card), toiletries and beverages are at your own expense. Volunteers get 1 day off per week. Working at Horizon can be really hard work so use this time wisely to rest and relax. Horizon is very remote so bring plenty of books to read and films/Series to watch. When you are on your off day you can also request to go to Entabeni for a Big 5 Game drive or ask to go into town if there is someone going in so you can do some shopping.

You will need to arrange insurance which covers you for cross country jumping, polocrosse and emergency air evacuation. Sports direct is recommended.

Before you arrive you will need to buy your uniform from us (We will send you an order form). We recommend at least 3 shirts, 1 fleece and 1 cap which will cost around £60. We also ask that you arrive with neutral coloured smart jeans or jodphurs/breeches for riding in and a smart warm neutral coloured coat . You will also need some smart clothes for evenings. T shirts and vest tops are

not suitable attire day or night.

IMPORTANT : Our volunteers must be out-going and at all times polite and chatty to the guests. The guests must always come first so you must be on hand at all times to help with any questions, queries or requests they may have.

As a volunteer you will be expected to:

Back up rides at least once a day sometimes twice a day.

School horses

Groom, & tack up,

Help feed the horses

Help clean tack

Help clean the yards

Socialise with the guests and be at all times friendly, informative and helpful.
